How to Deep Cleanse With Clay Facial Mask

Good hygiene is the first step to beautiful skin, but it's not enough to just wash daily. Deep clean once or twice a week to remove any remaining impurities and tighten pores. A facial mask treatment made from clay can be relaxing and give your skin a healthy glow. To make a facial clay, add distilled water to a small amount of clay. Other additives you may add to a facial mask instead of distilled water are plain yogurt, honey, liquid vegetable glycerin, whipped egg whites or mayonnaise.

  Instructions

Wash the face before you apply the clay facial mask. This helps to remove as much surface debris as possible, and it allows the clay to penetrate deep into the skin.

Steam the face for 5 to 10 minutes after you wash it to open the pores of the skin. A steamy shower is an easy way to steam the face, but a pot of boiling water with a few drops of rosemary essential oil also provides beneficial steam. Remove the pot from the stove, place a towel over the head and trap the steam from the pot in a tent. When done, pat the face dry with a towel.

Squeeze the clay mask onto your fingertips and gently rub it on the face. Use upward, sweeping motions. Add more clay facial mask where spots are thin and cover the entire face so no skin is visible.

Allow the clay facial mask to dry according to the manufacturer's directions. The dry time will vary with the type of products included in the mask, but most facial masks dry within 30 minutes of application. This is the most relaxing part of a facial, so take the time to rest the mind and body.

Rinse the mask off with warm water. Wipe the clay off with upward, sweeping motions. Remove any clay facial mask that remains with a washcloth and gently rub in circular motions. Do a final rinse with cold water to close the pores.

Tips
When you steam your face, remember to pull away to catch a breath and allow your face to cool down slightly if it gets too hot.

Avoid rubbing or pulling your skin with the towel when you pat it dry.

Body Wrap Clay

for Your Skin Type

China Clay is great for oily skin. It is perfect for use in body wraps because it heals inflammation and is used as a treatment for acne.  If you have sensitive skin, use Rose Clay instead. This silky clay is even gentle enough to use on the face. Similarly, French Yellow is suitable for body wraps on normal skin, but because of its mild properties it can also be used on sensitive or dry skin.

Red Clay is a mineral-rich clay originating from Morocco, which absorbs oil and exfoliates the skin. Also known as Moroccan Lava Clay, this smooth, sweetly scented clay has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Used in body wraps, this clay promotes healthy skin and body contouring.

You can use a variety of herbs in this wrap depending on the fragrances and properties you like. Recommended for this recipe using lavender essential oil. This essential oil has a  beautiful fragrance that promotes relaxation and properties that soothe the skin.

Ingredients:

2 tbs olive oil
1/4 cup of sea salt
1/2 cup of powdered herbs (optional)
1 cups of Clay of your choice
2 cups of water

Directions:

Before making the clay body wrap, prepare a clean area in which to lie down once the wrap is applied. Lying in a bathtub will reduce messiness and make cleaning up easier. Alternatively, cover a couch or bed with thick towels on which to lay. You may choose to light some incense and candles to enhance the atmosphere and put you in a relaxed mood. Finally, listen to a relaxing music so that once the body wrap is applied you can drift off while the wrap works its magic.

  1. Heat water until just boiling and dissolve salt.
  2. Remove water from heat and add clay, herbs and oil until a smooth consistency is achieved.
  3. Allow mixture to cool to the point that it will not burn your skin and apply clay mixture evenly to body.
  4. Wrap towels firmly around torso, legs and arms.
  5. Allow the clay to dry for 30–40 minutes.
  6. Shower using mildly warm water.

Further Body Wrap Recommendations

Add up to 2 tbs of essential oils for further aromatherapy benefit. Take care when using essential oils, however, as some people may have severe reactions to them. Do a skin test prior to applying the wrap, using essential oil diluted with your chosen carrier oil.

Drink plenty of water prior to and after wrapping. As the body wrap promotes the release of toxins and absorbs moisture, drinking lots of water will help you avoid dehydration.

If you have circulatory problems or pre-existing medical conditions, consult with a doctor before trying a clay body wrap. Pregnant women are advised not to try clay body wraps.

Sensitive
Skins

You should make your own face masks. Not only because home made face masks are much cheaper than store bought masks, but also because if you are not hApply with the results, you know to just not make that particular mask again. If you are unhApply with the results of a store bought mask, you are still stuck with the rest of the bottle to either use up or throw out.

This recipe would work great for you specially if you have acne with very sensitive skin to harsh products. Clay is the perfect solution for your skin type because it soaks up all the excess oil on my skin, but at the same time doesn't dry it out. To make a homemade clay mask you will need half a cup of green clay, one cucumber, and one teaspoon of honey. The honey is added for its antibacterial property and the cucumber is added because it's nice and soothing for your skin.

The first step is to prepare the cucumber. First cut the cumber in half and cut two thin slices. You will use these later to place over your eyes while the mask is on your face. Now take the remaining cucumber, and put it through a juicer if you have one. If you are without a juicer, don't worry. You can instead cut up the cucumber and put it in a bowl with cool water for about 15 minutes.

Once the cucumber is ready mix it together with the honey and clay using a fork. You will end up with a thick paste. If your paste is too thick, or you just like the consistency better when it is not very thick you can add more juice or water as needed.

Now you are ready to put the mask on your face. Spread it all over and then get ready to relax. Put your extra slices of cucumber over your eyes and enjoy yourself while the mask does it's magic.

After 10 minutes or so you are ready to remove the mask. Your skin will immediately look clearer and smoother. I use the mask about once a week right after washing and exfoliating.

Bentonite Clay for Internal & External Use

Bentonite, also referred to as Montmorillonite, is one of the most effective and powerful healing clays used to treat both internal and external maladies. Bentonite can be used externally as a clay poultice, mud pack or in the bath, and in skin care recipes. Internally, it can be added to water or glazed upon food to help those with sensitive palates. It has a very fine, velveteen feel and is odorless and non-staining. Bentonite clay is somewhat different from the other types of clay. When Bentonite is mixed with water, the molecular structure changes and it rapidly swells open like a highly porous sponge. Its highest power lies in the ability to absorb toxins, impurities, heavy metals and other internal contaminants.   Click here for more info.
